Mitt standpunkt

Teamwork with Kari Ingun Aalstad

Interaction design - Teamwork - 5 weeks - School project 2025

Task (self-defined, under the theme of learning)
Through a hypothesis- and opportunity-driven process, we explored how Valgdirektoratet can help young voters feel more confident in their own standpoints, enabling them to participate more easily in public debate.

Result:
Many young people are unsure of their political standpoints in a digital landscape marked by polarization. We examined how Valgdirektoratet, as a neutral and governmental actor, can make politics more understandable, personal, and less black-and-white.

The outcome, Mitt Standpunkt, is a concept presented as a personal dashboard. The idea is that users complete small exercises based on their values, priorities, and potential consequences, and that the output from these exercises updates and adjusts the user’s political standpoint within the dashboard.

The exercises themselves were not the main focus of this project; instead, the focus was on how the insights they generate can be visualized, interpreted, and used to shape a more personal and dynamic political position.

What I have learned:
I learned the importance of testing early, sketching broadly, and being clear about what I as a designer should not focus on. The project also made me more aware of the role of neutrality, scoping, and creating solutions that genuinely invite reflection.

In addition, the project taught me a lot about storytelling, both in building trust and in making the decisions taken along the way visible. I also saw how effective illustrations, diagrams, and visual explanations can be for clarifying processes, opportunity spaces, and design choices.
