Bring data forward

Interaction design - Individual - 5 weeks - School project 2025

Task (self-defined, under the theme of storytelling):
How might the home screen surface the information you actually need by challenging today’s iOS conventions?

Result:

I began by exploring micro-interactions but quickly realized the real opportunity was larger: rethinking what the home screen shows first, how you move through it, and how notifications and apps appear when they’re needed. Rather than polishing details, I explored new ways of grouping, prioritizing and bringing information forward.

The work led to two main directions: apps that adapt to daily patterns and context, and a new flow for how notifications are gathered and handled directly from the home screen. This also meant redefining the roles of the home screen and the widget page, one foregrounds what matters, the other becomes a dedicated space for notifications.

What I have learned:
This project taught me to look for opportunity spaces before committing to solutions, and to design with clearer intent. It also strengthened my understanding of how data can shape more responsive interfaces, and how existing conventions can be challenged without losing clarity.
